Columbia College Student Services has adopted four year cycle for Program Review. All Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Service Area Outcomes (SAOs) are assessed at least once during that cycle. Please click on the program links below in the Program Review Chart to access each programs SLOs and SAOs.

Program SLO/SAOs by Department

Academic Achievement Center (AAC)

The AAC staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by the AAC.

  • SLO #1: Students who use the learning support services offered through the AAC will be able to identify specific learning needs with regard to the classes for which they seek assistance.

  • SLO #2: Students who use the learning support services offered through the AAC will demonstrate independent application of learning strategies.

The AAC staff has identified the following Student Area Outcomes for the various services provided by the AAC.

  • SAO #1: Students who receive tutoring will have higher course success rates than their peers in the same courses who did not receive tutoring.

  • SAO #2: Students who receive tutoring will have higher retention rates than their peers in the same courses who did not receive tutoring.

Admissions and Records

The Admissions and Records staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by Admissions and Records.

  • SAO #1: Student transcripts will be evaluated in a timely manner to allow students to register on-time for classes that require a prerequisite course that they have already completed.
  • SAO #2: Students will indicate Admission and Records ability to meet the needs of students in registration, petitions, and transcript requests.

CalWORKS

The CalWORKS staff have identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by the CalWORKS Program.

  • SLO#1: Participants will demonstrate ability to develop an appropriate educational plan. (SPLO #3 ISLO #2,3)
  • SLO#2: Participants will demonstrate knowledge of campus support services including deadlines for application to the various resources such as, but not limited to, EOPS/CARE, Financial Aid, and DSPS. (PSLO #1, ISLO #2,3)
  • SLO#3: Participants will demonstrate self-advocacy skills. (SPLO #2, ISLO #1)

Career & Job Placement Services

Career & Job Placement Services has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided in the Career & Transfer Center: 

  • SLO #1: Career Exploration
    Students will be capable of comprehensively exploring career options, beginning with self-assessment up to and including an understanding of the relationship between current career pathways and future employment goals.
  • SLO #2: Skill Building
    Students who engage with the career center will have increased confidence in speaking with employers, will know how to write a resume and cover letter, and will have the opportunity to improve their interviewing skills.

The Job Placement staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided in Job Placement Services.

  • SAO #1: The Job Placement Services staff will practice QUALITY basic office management skills, practice effective use of the MS office package, conduct internet directed research projects and improve typing speed by at least 5 wpm during the semester.
  • SAO #2: Students staffing the Job Placement Services desk will practice excellent customer service, including communication and problem solving skills.
  • SAO #3: The Job Placement Services will process student intakes, new jobs, maintain job listings database, provide employer contact information both online and in person

CalWORKS

The CalWORKS staff have identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by the CalWORKS Program.

  • SLO#1: Participants will demonstrate ability to develop an appropriate educational plan. (SPLO #3 ISLO #2,3)
  • SLO#2: Participants will demonstrate knowledge of campus support services including deadlines for application to the various resources such as, but not limited to, EOPS/CARE, Financial Aid, and DSPS. (PSLO #1, ISLO #2,3)
  • SLO#3: Participants will demonstrate self-advocacy skills. (SPLO #2, ISLO #1)

Counseling

The Counseling staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by Counseling:

  • SLO#1: Students will develop a comprehensive education plan by 15 units that accurately charts their path to their educational goal.
  • SLO#2: All incoming students will access face-to-face or online orientation services, and advertisement with completion of an abbreviated education plan prior to enrollment.
  • SAO#1: At risk, early alert, and probation students will be identified and participate in follow-up services.

DSPS

The DSPS staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by DSPS:

  • SLO#1: Participants will demonstrate awareness of campus services and resources available to them (SPLO#1, ISLO#2,3).
  • SLO#2: Participants will demonstrate self-advocacy skills with college instructors (SPLO #2, ISLO #1,3).
  • SLO#3: Participants will demonstrate the independent use of appropriate assistive technology (ISLO #2).
  • SLO #4: Participants will identify functional limitations and educational barriers that are specific to the individual (SPLO #2, ISLO #3).
  • SAO#1: DSPS participants will have access to high quality tutoring services (SPAO #2).
  • SAO #2: DSPS participants will have course success rates equal to those of their peers who are not enrolled in DSPS (SPAO #1).

EOPS/CARE

The EOPS staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by EOPS:

  • SLO #1: Participants will demonstrate self-advocacy skills. (SPLO #2, ISLO #1,2,3)
  • SLO #2: Participants will demonstrate high levels of self-efficacy. (SPLO #2, ISLO #1,2,3)
  • SAO #1: EOPS participants will have higher rates of persistence than their similarly disadvantaged peers in their efforts to develop and reach their educational goals. (SPAO #1)
  • SAO #2: EOPS participants will demonstrate higher GPA’s than their similarly disadvantaged peers in their efforts to develop and reach their educational goals. (SPAO #1)

The CARE staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by CARE:

  • SLO #1: Participants will demonstrate high levels of self-efficacy related to their ability to reach their goals. (SPLO #2, ISLO#1,2,3)

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by the Financial Aid staff:

  • SLO #1: Students will demonstrate the ability to successfully apply for financial aid through the federal online process called the FAFSA, and the ability to complete and submit all required documentation (including submission information via the district Electronic Data Submission (EDS system)) in order to be reviewed and a financial aid award determination to be made.
  • SLO #2: Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Satisfactory Academic Progress "SAP" Policy for financial aid and apply that knowledge to their academic situation and/or circumstances. 

Foster Youth

The Foster Youth staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by Foster Youth:

  • SLO#1: Participants will demonstrate knowledge of campus support services. (PSLO #1, ISLO#2,3)
  • SLO#2: Participants will demonstrate high levels of self-efficacy. (SPLO #2, ISLO #1,2,3 )
  • SLO#3: Foster Youth peer mentors will describe the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors associated with growth and fixed mindsets.
  • SAO#1: Foster Youth will meet with a counselor at least once per semester. (SPAO #1, ISLO#)
  • SAO #2: Foster Youth will have term retention rates similar to their peers.

Health Services

The Health Services faculty has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by Health Services:

  • SLO #1: Students will utilize health services to enhance the success of their educational goals. 
  • SLO #2: Students are able to identify and access Columbia College Health Services and health information through an expanded and updated on-line presence. 

Library

The Library Services has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided for the library. 

  • SLO #1: Research classes, reference services and exposure to Library resources give students the knowledge and skills needed to: a) Construct context-appropriate search strategies; b) Recognize the value of pursuing different resources; c) Increase their awareness of available resources; d) Critically evaluate the integrity of information they retrieve; e) Appropriately cite and credit all sources referenced in their work; f) Support their vocational education in preparation for entering or advancing into the workplace.
  • SLO #2: The Library fosters positive growth in students. The Library's diverse collection and stimulating atmosphere encourages: a) Civic involvement and the value of active citizenship; b) Global awareness and environmental sustainability; c) Understanding the economic, legal and social issues of using information; d) The ethical use of information; e) The pursuit of lifelong learning; f) The successful transition and advancement into the workplace.

Mental Health

The Mental Health Services faculty has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by Mental Health Services:

  • SLO #1: Participants will demonstrate knowledge of campus support services for mental and emotional health and wellbeing. (PSLO #1, ISLO#2)
  • SLO #2: Students will demonstrate the ability to identify an appropriate tool for addressing a psychological/mental health issue.

TRiO MEOC

The TRiO staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by TRiO:

  • SLO #1: Enrolled MEOC students will demonstrate an ability to continually set and achieve (or modify appropriately) short and long term goals. (ISLO #3)
  • SLO #2: Enrolled MEOC students will demonstrate self-advocacy skills and high levels of self-efficacy. (SPLO #2, ISLO #1,2,3)
  • SLO #3: Enrolled MEOC students will demonstrate the ability to conduct university/transfer research and use this research to make appropriate decisions about preparing for and transferring to a four-year institution with the goal of completing a bachelor’s degree. (ISL0 #2)
  • SLO #4: Enrolled students will demonstrate knowledge about how to afford college, specifically the costs associated with transferring to a university to complete a bachelor’s degree. (ISLO #2).
  • SAO #1: MEOC Participants will demonstrate higher GPA’s than their MEOC- eligible peers/not-served. (baseline of 87% college-wide) (SPAO #1)
  • SAO #2: MEOC participants will persist from fall term to fall term at a higher rate than their eligible peers/not-served. (baseline of 44.7% college wide) (SPAO #1)
  • SAO #3: MEOC participants will graduate at higher rate, within four years, from Columbia College than their eligible peers/not-served. (baseline 10.4%) (SPAO#1)
  • SAO #4: MEOC participants will graduate and then transfer at a higher rate than their eligible peers/not-served. (baseline 6.6%) (SPAO #1)

TRiO SSS

The TRiO staff has identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the various services provided by TRiO:
