Recalculation Overpayment
Dropping units during the semester will cause the financial aid award to be recalculated at the time of the 2nd refund date. For example, if you are funded as a full-time student and then drop to half-time by the second refund date, you would only be eligible for your first refund (50%). You would be considered paid completely as a half-time student and would NOT receive a second refund.
Example of a students Pell eligibility based on zero EFC and enrollment status:
Enrollment Status | 1st Refund | 2nd Refund | Semester Total |
12 or more units (full-time) | $1623.75 | $1623.75 | $3247.50 |
9 - 11.5 units (3/4) | $1217.75 | $1217.75 | $2435.50 |
6 - 8.5 units (1/2) | $812.00 | $812.00 | $1624.00 |
.5 - 5.5 units | $209.50 | $209.50 | $419.00 |
Example Calculation starting with 1st refund @ full-time:
If you drop from full-time down to 3/4-time: 2435.50 - 1624.00 = 811.50 (2nd refund)
If you drop from full-time down to 1/2-time: 1623.75 - 1624.00 = 0.25 (2nd refund)
If you drop from full-time down to less-than-half-time: 419.00 - 1624.00 = -1205.00 (you owe back)
Example Calculation starting with 1st refund @ 3/4-time:
If you drop from 3/4-time down to 1/2-time: 1624.00 - 1217.75 = 406.25 (2nd refund)
If you drop from 3/4-time down to less-than-half-time: 419.00 - 1217.75 = -798.75 (you owe back)
Example Calculation starting with 1st refund @ 1/2-time:
If you drop from 1/2-time down to less-than-half-time: 419.00 - 812.00 = -393.00 (you owe back)
