Members of the Yosemite Community College District Board of Trustees and the District Chancellor, Dr. Joan Smith, invite the community to a welcome reception for Dr. Dennis Gervin, Columbia College President, on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Manzanita Building Community Education Room. Sponsored by the Columbia College Foundation, the reception is an opportunity to meet community members and continue to strengthen relationships and partnerships that allow Columbia College the opportunity to offer its students a much more meaningful experience.

Dr. Dennis Gervin began his appointment on July 1 after a 6-0 vote in June by the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Board approving him as the next President of Columbia College.

Gervin served as Columbia College Vice President of Student Learning since 2005. Prior to coming to Columbia College, Gervin served as Dean of Instructional Services at Modesto Junior College (MJC) for four years, MJC Interim Dean of Library and Learning Resources for a year, and MJC Dean of Science, Mathematics and Engineering from 1999-2002. His career at the YCCD began in 1995 as a Professor of Microbiology and Biology at MJC, earning Tenure as a full-time faculty member in 1999. Gervin received his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and also his B.A. in Microbiology from UCSB.
