Columbia College Foundation to award
Twenty-One $1,000 Scholarships this Fall

Applications due October 12, 2012

The Columbia College Foundation will award twenty-one college students with Osher Scholarships to help them meet their educational goals this fall. Full-time students will each receive $1,000, while part-time students will receive between $500 and $750, depending on the number of units in which they are enrolled.

These endowed scholarships were created by generous local donors in partnership with the Bernard Osher Foundation, which provided matching funds. Upon completion of a fundraising campaign last year, the Foundation can now offer a minimum of $19,000 for these scholarships every year, forever.

Eligible candidates must be enrolled at Columbia College at least part-time, have completed 24 units of study, and have documented financial need. “Some of our donors choose to participate directly in selecting their awardees; others will be selected by a subcommittee of the Foundation Board of Directors,” noted Beccie Michael, Director of Development.  Mel Kirk, Foundation Board President added, “Last year we received over 40 qualified applications. We are grateful as a Board to be able to offer assistance to students, especially in these difficult economic times.”

Applications are due to the Columbia College Financial Aid/Scholarships Office by October 12, 2012, and can be found online at: www.gocolumbia.edu/foundation .
