Columbia College Presents 43nd Commencement

Columbia College Presents 43nd Commencement on April 27 

 

Columbia College will hold its 43rd Commencement on Friday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion. A reception for the graduates, their families, friends and guests will be held immediately after the ceremony in Carkeet Park next to the pavilion.

Among the graduating class, 117 associate in arts degrees will be conferred, 84 associate in science degrees, 23 associate in science (occupational education) degrees, and 85 certificates of achievement.  Twenty-two will graduate with distinction (cumulative grade point averages of 3.75 or better) and 24 with honors (between 3.5 and 3.74 grade point averages).

Those who will receive both A.A. and A.S. or A.S.O.E degrees are Cody Ann Baker, Rebecca Elizabeth Bjorge, Stacy Renee Boyce, Sarah Rachael Burkey, Teagan A. Dornbush, Kimberly Layne Hinman, Logan Charles Walter Larrabee, Duane Evan Lillie, Alex R. Ohnemus, Keith Cline Robinson II, Sandra Marie Spaulding, Jon-Erik Edward Starkweather, Leanna Winnick, Courtney Margaret Wivell, Zachary Dale Woods and Kathryn Elizabeth Wyman.

In addition, both associate degrees and certificates will be presented to Virginia Irene Bailey, Gina S. Davenport, Travis M. Giannini, Natasha Gonsalez, Melissa C. Hallmeyer, Heather Vinét Hein, Corey Ryan Holmes, Logan Charles Walter Larrabee, Rebecca Louise Martinez, Vincent M. Mazucci, Rhett Warren McBride, Stephanie A. Schuler, Jennifer Lynn Stearns and Angella Brackett Thorne.

Stephanie Romero, Vice President of the Associated Students of Columbia College (ASCC), will deliver the welcome address.  Nancy Bull, President of the Classified Senate and Raelene Juarez, President of the Academic Senate will convey the college’s welcome.  The student graduation address will be delivered by Gina Davenport and the concluding student farewell will be by Ryan Hodge.

Dr. Dennis Gervin, Columbia College President will introduce members of the class of 2012.  He will be joined on-stage by Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Trustees Dr. Lynn Martin (area 1) and Linda Flores (area 5).

Also  assisting in the ceremonies will be Dr. Leslie Buckalew, the college’s Vice President of Student Learning; Mr. Gary Whitfield, Vice President of College and Administrative Services; Dr. Melissa Raby, Dean of Student Services; Mr. Michael Torok, Dean of Instructional Support Services, Arts & Sciences; and, Mr. Chris Vitelli, Dean of Vocational Education and Economic Development.  Emily Mathe, Columbia College student and musician, will play the National Anthem on the violin and the Columbia College Big Band, under the direction of Dr. Rod Harris, will provide other musical selections during the event.
