FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 3, 2012
Columbia College Invites the Public to Visit the "Process" Art Show
The “Process” art show will be on display in the Columbia College Manzanita Building Rotunda, February 6, 2012 through March 7. The Rotunda is open to view the show Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A reception for the show will be hosted on February 23, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with an artist talk beginning at 6:00 p.m. As educators, the artists in this show hope to involve the visitor’s imagination in the exciting and diverse journey that is the art process.
A variety of works will be presented by artists who teach at Columbia College, ranging in forms from photography to sculpture, painting, and ceramics. Each piece invites the viewer to consider the dynamic process the artist has embarked upon to express their vision. Evidence, such as sketch books, notes, and catch strips will be featured, along with artist's discussions further defining the process. A visitor may come to better understand the balanced interplay between glazes and form in a ceramic piece or the importance of arriving at just the right juxtaposition of light and subject in a photograph. The questions artists ask themselves are key to this process; what materials to use in a mixed media piece and what do they mean? How do the color and composition of a painting affect its mood? How many reiterations are necessary in a drawing? Where and when to pick up the camera to collect images?
Featured in the show are the photographs of Laurie Sylwester, Allison Fairfield, Thad Waterbury and Phil Schermeister, the ceramic works of Sifu Berchtold and Marta Magistrali, the mixed media works of Li Ching Accurso and John Accurso, the sculpture work of Mac Frost and the paintings of Twyla Olson and Lori Hanson.
