DVD Media Issues

·          As more of our faculty, staff and students create multimedia projects and present their projects with laptops we are experiencing some technical challenges with two common occurrences: the video not projecting through a LCD projector onto a screen and the DVD media freezing.

Some video display issues can be resolved by reducing hardware graphics acceleration on the affected workstation. Follow these procedures:

Windows 2000/XP users:

1.      Right-click on the desktop, click on Properties. Click on the Settings tab. Click on the Advanced button and click on the Troubleshoot (Windows XP) or Troubleshooting (Windows 2000) tab.

2.     Move the Hardware Acceleration slide bar until the notch is all the way to the left (None).

3.     Click OK, and then click Close.

4.      If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

Download and use the "official" Media Player Classic player. (Copy and paste the url into a browser window)

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358

The download is usually just a .zip file that has a single file (the player) inside: mplayerc.exe. The newest version is 6.4.9.0.

Always do a dry run and plan ahead when presenting with technology.
