Threaded Discussions - are considered an "asynchronous" form of communication. You post a message in a Web type board and someone can respond to it with another posting anytime.

Asynchronous Communication- there is no need to communicate in real time, you post a message when convenient as in Email or Web Boards.

Synchronous Communication - this form of communication requires participation at the same time, as in Instant Messenger or chat rooms.
