Extended Opportunity Programs and Services

Mission Statement

The primary program goal of Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is to encourage the enrollment, retention and transfer of students handicapped by language, social, economic and educational disadvantages, and to facilitate the successful completion of their goals and objectives in college.  EOPS offers academic and financial assistance in addition to other support services.

About EOPS

EOPS was established by the California State Legislature in 1969.  It is administered through the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office and exists in all community college in California.  The state provides funds to EOPS programs so that they may offer valuable student services that support academic success and goal attainment.

EOPS Application

You may download the EOPS application and submit it to the EOPS Office during the enrollment period.  Before submission, you must:

• Have submitted a BOGFW Application
• Have submitted high school and all college transcripts as directed on the EOPS application
• Have taken the college Assessment Test in English and math.

Student Success Skills Assessment

EOPS counselors will assess EOPS student readiness for academic success. Assessments will be used to make appropriate referrals to resources.

• Fee waivers for CSU/UC Applications

Academic Services

• Priority registration
• Academic, career/employment, personal counseling
• Educational planning & course advisement
• Academic monitoring and improvement strategies
• Referrals to campus & community resources
• Student success workshops
• Transfer preparation services
• Recommendation letters

EOPS Student Responsibilities

• Meet with an EOPS Counselor three times each semester.  Required activities:  an updated educational plan, a mid-semester progress evaluation, and an end-of-term meeting.  These meetings must be completed within the timeframe set by EOPS.
• Make satisfactory academic progress.  Progress is evaluated by the term grade point average and unit completion rate.
• Follow the established educational plan toward identified academic goals.
