Functions of the Academic Senate

 

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the best interests of higher education, as a representative of the faculty of Columbia College, in making recommendations to the administration with respect to academic and professional matters and sharing in the governance of Yosemite Community College District.

Title 5 §53200 of the Education Code specifically states the eleven areas where the Academic Senate is entitled to participation:

Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines

Degree and certificate requirements

Grading policies

Educational program development

Standards of policies regarding student preparation and success

District and college governance structures, as related to faculty roles

Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self study and annual reports

Policies for faculty professional development activities

Processes for program review

Processes for institutional planning and budget development, and

Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the governing board and the academic senate.
